Massingham Historical Society holds a fascinating and extensive collection of historical material documenting the rich heritage of Great and Little Massingham.
Our archives contain a vast quantity of photographs, some dating back as far as 1890, alongside copies of etchings/drawings dating from 1836. The collection also includes historic maps, documents, family histories and deeds, offering a valuable insight into the lives, homes, families and changing landscape of Massingham through the centuries.
A particularly significant part of our collection relates to the Second World War and RAF Great Massingham (1939–1945). This extensive archive includes photographs, written recollections and personal accounts, as well as The Roll of Honour created by Sister Laurence. Together, these materials provide a detailed record of the RAF personnel who served at Great Massingham, their experiences while stationed in the village, and their operational flying missions, or sorties. This collection offers a valuable insight into the vital role played by RAF Great Massingham during the war and its lasting place in the history of our village.
Through these records, the Society seeks to preserve Massingham’s heritage and make its history accessible to present and future generations, whether they are researching family connections, exploring local history or discovering how the village has changed over time.
